A special collaboration that leaves the best impressions is the one between Boroume and Doukas School. In the context of a combination of our programs "Boroume at school" and "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market", the students of Doukas School were informed in their school's classroom about food waste and how to avoid it in their daily lives, as well as about volunteering and social giving. Then the students moved on to practice. They became volunteer food saving heroes of Boroume with their participation in the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market".
The young volunteers of Doukas School saved in 9 actions, in the farmers markets of Holargos and Chalandri, about 2.420 kilos of fruits and vegetables with which they supported the Association for the Protection of Children and People with Disabilities and the Psarafteio Foundation. This corresponds to approximately 7.260 portions of food and 10.762 kg of CO2 which were not released into the atmosphere since these foods supported people in need instead of being discarded (10.762 kg of CO2 corresponds to 194 journeys Athens-Thessaloniki by passenger car).
The Doukas’ School professor, Mrs. Ioanna Moschidou states:
"From the first moment I presented the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" to our students, there was a great response and interest both to inform them and to participate in it. The influence of the first group of students of Doukas School that participated in the program, on the rest of the students, was so great that they asked more and more of our students to participate in the next actions in farmers' markets. This desire and eagerness resulted in amazing results. Personally, I believe that the program throughout its duration offered great satisfaction and joy to the students of our School for what they managed to achieve. They recognized the great contribution of the people who worked in the farmers market and appreciated immensely the help and smiles they offered them throughout their participation. The program was completely successful, the hugs of the children after the end of each action and the joy I saw in their eyes, was my most beautiful reward"
Two of the young volunteers of Doukas School share their impressions:
"I was very happy to participate in the program, because I felt that I was helping people in need. Everyone took great care of us and we felt very comfortable."
"What I realized is that it's a lot of fun and important to be a volunteer. We had a great time in the program, it was very enjoyable and I would like to do it again in second grade."
