Two more farmers’ markets in Thessaloniki joined the "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program

Tue 28 December 2021
Two farmers’ markets in Thessaloniki and specifically in Kato Toumpa and Sykies, have been added to the “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” program, increasing the number of cooperating farmers markets in Thessaloniki to ten totally.

As of mid-December, these 2 farmers markets have supported 2 charitable organizations with hundreds of surplus fruits and vegetables that would remain unsold the next day.

With these new collaborations we are once again thankful for the generosity and social solidarity of the farmers markets to the charitable institutions and people in need.

It’s worthwhile mentioning that since the launching of the "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program in Thessaloniki in 2018 until now, ten farmers markets have supported dozens of charitable institutions in the city with more than 138 tons of surplus fruits and vegetables, i.e. foods of high nutritional value, thus avoiding their ending up in the landfill and its consequent environmental impact.

All the aforementioned would have never been achieved without the enormous help of the dozens of volunteers who participate every week in the "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program, the cooperation with the charitable institutions and the long-term support and trust of The Hellenic Initiative Australia to the work of Boroume.
