The program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" in Thessaloniki continues dynamically!

Tue 30 March 2021

2020 was a very difficult year for everyone. At the beginning of the year no one imagined what was to come. Suddenly new concepts came into our lives such as quarantine, corona virus, social distancing, etc. We were called to change our way of life and to adapt to new data and in fact in a somewhat "violent" way. So consequently, emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, uncertainty dominated. The needs of people, especially those belonging to socially vulnerable groups, increased, as the physical distances between us increased, resulting in several voluntary actions being forced to temporarily suspend their work.

In spite of the times and despite the difficulties and problems, the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" Thessaloniki continues its operation. We can only feel proud, as with the valuable help of volunteers and collaborators we managed to save and collect slightly less than 2019, with significantly less action.

In addition, we are very happy and optimistic about the future, as we aimed, tried and finally succeeded in consolidating cooperation with the farmers' market of 25th Martiou, the largest in Thessaloniki and one of the largest in Greece. This gives us the strength to continue the effort, to aim and achieve new partnerships in the fight against food waste and to support our fellow human beings in need.

All of the above and what we have achieved in recent years would not have been possible without the support of The Hellenic Initiative Australia (THI), the most important body of the Greek Diaspora in Australia, which has been supporting the entire program “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” for 5 years and whom we thank from the bottom of our hearts!
