The first Certification Scheme for reducing food waste is a fact

Fri 29 October 2021

Boroume is a non-profit organization which aims to reduce food waste in Greece. We started by creating our innovative model for the immediate saving & offering of any kind of food, anywhere in the country, and then we developed programs addressing other stages of the food chain where waste is observed, namely the primary sector (Boroume Gleaning) and the farmer markets (Boroume at the Farmers’ Market).

But in order to contribute to the prevention of waste generation, it was necessary to develop information and awareness raising programs ("Every meal matters "), education (Boroume at School, seminars) and to develop synergies among all stakeholders (Alliance for the Reduction of Food Waste).

In this way we have created a holistic approach that responds to the complexity of the phenomenon of food waste. In this context lies our new initiative, the development of the first Certification Scheme of companies and organizations to reduce food waste "No Food Waste", in collaboration with TUV Austria Hellas.

This innovative service, which is addressed to all the organizations of the food supply chain, highlights the responsibility, social responsibility and sensitivity, as well as the business ethics that govern each organization, which determines and acts on the development of constantly evaluated methods of food management and utilization, with the aim of limiting and minimizing food waste at every stage.

We thank TUV Austria Hellas from the bottom of our hearts for believing in this idea, for the excellent cooperation we have over time, and especially for the creation and implementation of an extremely effective professional tool, which will substantially upgrade the way with which we deal with food waste in Greece.
