The driving force of Boroume #1

Wed 04 March 2020

The driving force behind the achievement of Boroume’s purpose is the people who support it and above all, its volunteers. Positive, dynamic and active people who have chosen the path of offering in their lives, in any way everyone can. Many devote their time, others offer their professional and personal skills, but they all share a common characteristic: the need to offer and have a positive impact and attitude, not only in Boroume, but in their lives in general.

Wanting to get to know these extraordinary people better, here’s what they shared with us:

Elina Stavropoulou

One of our volunteers is Elina Stavropoulou, who works in the House of Boroume.

Born and educated in Athens, but in recent years she lives and works for most of the time in Ancient Olympia. She believes we have a personal responsibility to shape our life as we want to live it, and to improve our world.

She found herself in Boroume with a group of volunteers she felt comfortable with: simple, kind, happy about what they do, very organized and, above all, very respectful for those they approach.

She became a volunteer because of a very strong internal need to offer to others. She has the time; she likes to deal with many different things in her life. She may not remember how she got to know Boroume, but she remembers that the group embraced her and adapted to her needs. She liked the fact that the group is organized and has rules, but it functions as boundaries and guidance, without becoming restrictive.

For her, it's very difficult to throw away food. She does serious shopping planning, uses her freezer for what's left over and manages her materials well.

One of the important moments she experienced in Boroume was when she helped network a very large amount of leftover food in a short time, during which she discovered the effectiveness of Boroume’s team. It makes her happy that more and more donors are now sensitive to offering their leftover food to charities instead of throwing it away.
