The Driving Force of Boroume # 4

Fri 29 May 2020

Boroume’s driving force is its volunteers. People of all ages who refuse to remain inactive, with great inner strength and warmth. People for whom offering is an integral part of their lives.

Marina Spyridonos

Marina has been a volunteer at Boroume from 2013 until today. She has studied History and has a master's degree in Organizing Files and Special Libraries. After a long and fruitful career in the private sector, she realized her desire as a teenager to pursue volunteering.

She chose to join the Boroume team because she saw young people, with hope and great zeal for offering to fellow human beings, participating in the joint effort. Marina believes that the transformation of our country's individualistic mentality into a Solidarity Society is taking place gradually, with an easy starting point being "How not to throw away food". That is, to go shopping often, so as to cover our immediate needs in fresh cooking ingredients. To invite our friends home and with our children to make a meal that we will call "Today we do not cook or take from outside, today we eat what is left in the refrigerator." This usually ends with a large omelet, spaghetti or a salad sandwich where everyone has a good time and experiences the effort to reduce food waste.

A story from Marina's experience in Boroume is one of the first culinary activities of the Boroume team in which she took part. We went to a cooking school to cook a full meal for 100 people. Despite the hard work, we all had a great time, talking to the professionals, but also to each other with laughter and fun. The team spirit that existed and the joy she felt in the end, since we all cooked and packed the portions together, were unforgettable.

She describes Boroume in 3 words: Giving, companionship, pleasure.
