The Driving Force of Boroume #2

Thu 26 March 2020

The driving force to realize the goals of Boroume is its volunteers. People who have chosen to put a positive mark not only on their own lives, but also on others, in any way they can. Active, dynamic, enthusiastic about life, they choose in their daily lives, apart from their personal obligations, to engage in of positively impacting those in need.

Alexis Kappas

Alexis Kappas has been a steady volunteer for Boroume since 2016. He prefers to participate in the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market", since he can combine the functions of the program with his own various obligations. Alexis belongs to the volunteers -"commando" of the farmers’market program. He responds to our call to any action that is necessary. In this way we feel confident that in difficult times there is an experienced volunteer to manage any situation.

Alexis is a freelancer, he has gymnastics as a hobby, while in parallel he also helps those in need in his spare time. He decided to volunteer his time and skills from the same need that all volunteers have, i.e. to offer to the community as a whole.

He believes it is very easy not to throw away leftover food and to support people who need it. He considers that our group is characterised by honesty, responsibility and excellent organization. In the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" he chose to participate in order to assist us in our work and to ensure that, as far as he is concerned, food insecurity is combated, especially in the times we live in.

When we asked him to share a favorite story from an action of program he said:

"In one of the actions at the Halandri farmers' market, I was struck when the chef of Halandri’s Soup Kitchen, who cooks the food offered to us by the vendors, also bought 24 eggs for the soup kitchen from his own money. A short time later, they gave him another 24 eggs donated from another stall. And the chef says to me, "Whenever I buy something, they give me more." The eggs he buys because he usually lacks eggs for the meals he prepares at the soup kitchen. The lesson here is "GIVE AND YOU WILL RECEIVE". That's how the laws of the world we live in work. Now, whether the chef knew it or not, it doesn't matter..."
