From Toronto to Kallithea’s Farmers’ Market for Boroume

Wed 26 February 2020
Boroume’s team was delighted to welcome five volunteers from far away. Five students from the University of Toronto, after visiting us and getting to know our work, expressed a desire to volunteer in an action of the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market".

The volunteers from abroad joined the program's action group, in the farmers’ market of Kallithea, which operates every Friday and supports the beneficiaries of Kallithea’s Municipal Social Grocery. During the action, Boroume’s volunteers from Canada noted the generosity and support of the vendors towards the work of Boroume, as well as to the people in need in the Municipality of Kallithea.

Afterwards, they shared their impressions with us:

- "It was the best experience I've had in a long time! There were moments when tears came to my eyes from how very generous the vendors were to offer the (leftover) food, which proves how amazing this program is."
- "It was a very positive experience. I had a great time collecting fruits and vegetables from the vendors. It was a very moving experience."
- "I had a really good time. It was a lot of fun and it is really amazing to see all social groups working together for something truly amazing and at the same time fighting food waste. Honestly, we had a great time and we are grateful to Boroume for taking us with them."
- "I had so much fun! I love the food and the markets of this kind and seeing the positive mood of the vendors, Anna and Eliza’s such good relationships with these people and the vendors to be given the possibility to offer their leftover foods... It was amazing!"
- "I think this was all amazing. I think this whole program is so sustainable, it's such a good idea and I don't understand why more people don't do it. It actually helps all social groups participate in any way they can. I'd do it again 100 percent."

The participation of volunteers from abroad is always an important event for Boroume, since many of them visit us from very far away countries. The positive impressions they share with us from any farmers’ market they visit with our teams is the best ambassador for the work of our team and our partners.
