Evdokia shares with us her experience as a Boroume volunteer

Fri 21 June 2019

A few words about you

I was born and raised in Athens where I studied chemical engineering with the desire to deal with the environment and its protection. I participated throughout my studies in various groups, both in relation to the environment and rescue groups. Now, having completed my studies, I had the chance through the program of ReGeneration to get in touch with Boroume and all the values that the organisation advocates. So, learning about the work on food wastage and at the same time helping people in need, I feel lucky to be a small part of this project.

Why did you decide to volunteer?

Very simply because I had the willingness to offer. Because especially at this time it is very important to show our interest with actions and not just words. For me volunteering is a way to change what we see around us and to face the world a little more positively.

How easy is it not to throw away food?

As difficult as it may seem sometimes, we have to remember that there are easy solutions in each case. From cooking and ordering the right quantities, taking it with us and storing leftover food to be consumed later, or in cases involving larger quantities to communicate with the team of Boroume to find the right way to dispose of it.

Tell us one of your favorite stories from the house of Boroume

Every day at the House of Boroume is so different, but it is always characterized by a pleasant atmosphere, both because of the people who make it and the sense of satisfaction that you acquire from giving. More strongly I can say that I remember the times that having called a charity to inform me that they have collected the food from the donors I heard how important this offer was for them and the "Thank you" they wanted to convey to Boroume. The feeling that you have contributed to this action really fills you with joy!
