Boroume Gleaning in Marathon

Nowadays, more than 15% of the world agricultural production is lost before leaving the farm, while 10% of greenhouse gas emissions are due to food waste at all stages of the supply chain.

Thus, every time a farmer contacts us to harvest fresh fruit or vegetables to be saved for a good cause, we feel one step closer to our goal.

In December, after communicating with TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas and with the generosity of Mrs. Maria Trahanatzis, we arranged a one - day action to Marathon for a good cause.

Supported by the excellent weather conditions and especially the good mood of the SOS Refugees Athens organization’ s volunteers, we managed within a few hours to harvest almost half a ton of potatoes, which would have probably been abandoned.

The organization’s gratitude as well as the smiles of the volunteers at the end of the activity justify our daily effort to reduce food waste in our country.
