Australian Ambassador volunteers for "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market"

Wed 23 February 2022

On Tuesday, February 22, we had the great honor and pleasure to welcome to our volunteer team Mr. Athanasios Spyrou, Ambassador of Australia to Greece, his associates, as well as representatives of the Hellenic Initiative Australia.

In a sunny day and wearing the Boroume vests, we visited the food market of Halandri. We were accompanied by Mr. Konstantinos Sfyrlas, President of the 3rd Farmers’ Market of Athens and General Secretary of POSPLA as well as Mr. Theodoros Kalatzoglou, President of the Association of Farmers of the 3rd Farmers’ Market of Athens, who have supported the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" from the very beginning.

We walked several kilometers as we were stopping at each stand of the farmer’s market several times. We filled and emptied the carts constantly, while at the same time we shared and received smiles from the farmers and sellers of the agricultural products.

Oranges, apples, pineapples, bananas, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and many other fresh fruits and vegetables, which unfortunately were not sold, were collected for a good cause. Our aim was to support the approximately 120 beneficiaries of the Maria Kokkori Foundation.

We cordially thank Ambassador Mr. Spyrou and his associates for the honor to become ambassadors of our message "Every Meal Matters".

A big thank you from the bottom of our heart to the farmers and sellers of the farmers’ markets, who, despite the difficulties they face, have been by our side all these years.

And of course, no matter how many times we say it, it is never enough. A big thank you to the Hellenic Initiative of Australia for their longstanding and valuable support to our program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market".
