Food waste is a matter of concern for the entire planet. Globally, 8% of total anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are due to food waste. In the EU, around 88 million tonnes of food waste are generated annually. This equates to 173 kilograms of food waste per person. In Greece, food waste coexists, unfortunately, with high levels of food insecurity (1.4 million people, 12.9% of the country's population, 2015). Reducing it - by half by 2030 - is part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (target 12.3). At European Union level, the prevention of food waste is an integral part of the Circular Economy package and the European Green Deal.
Reducing food waste in our country will have social, environmental and economic benefits. To achieve this we need everyone's support! And we extend an open invitation to participate! The more we are, and the closer we work together, the less food will be wasted and the more we will benefit from this effort!
