6th Intercultural Primary School of Kordelio: a school that is a source of inspiration!

Thu 01 November 2018
One of the most beautiful experiences in the context of Boroume’s actions is our involvement with children, always in our effort to discuss with them concepts such as food waste, volunteering and giving in general.

In the framework of the Nemesis Project, a few days ago we were blessed to visit the 6th Intercultural Primary School of Kordelio in Thessaloniki, based in one of the most deprived areas of the city, with more problems than solutions. The use of the word "blessed" is not accidental as the people we met there have inspired us more than anyone has in a long time.

It all starts with the ever-active director Mr. Stergios Papadopoulos and his vision of a truly open-minded school that embraces all children, regardless of background and origin, a school that participates passionately in as many educational programs it can to open the children’s horizons, who especially need it in this area. This mindset and energy are relayed to the dedicated and cordial teaching staff of the school, the parents, who came to participate in our seminar even with broken Greek sometimes, and above all the wonderful children of the school.

Without exaggeration, to the point where we expected it admittedly less because of the adverse circumstances of this particular region, we met by far the best fourth grade we have ever met. Wide open eyes full of appetite for learning, respect for classmates and teachers, 100% engagement in what we did, dedication to exercise, lots of laughter when we made jokes in between activities.

The 6th intercultural Primary School of Kordelio is the living and testament proof that ultimately it does not matter where you come from and what conditions this life has given you, but what you have decided to do with what you have been given, no matter in what circumstances you happen to be.

Because the difference, especially in education, is always made by people and not financial data or the postal code.

Heartfelt thanks to this wonderful school for its admirable work and the inspiration it gave us!
