2022: another year of outstanding performance for the “Boroume at the Farmers’ Market” program

Fri 31 March 2023
For the 7th year in a row, in 2022 the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" recorded excellent performances. By rescuing almost 192 tons of surplus food from 36 farmers’ markets in Attica and Thessaloniki and offering this food to dozens of charitable institutions, the program successfully achieved its goal, since this food supported thousands of people in need.

These results would not have been achieved without the valuable help, trust and support of the hundreds of farmers’ market sellers, which are visited every week by Boroume's volunteers. The farmers’ market vendors generously prove every week that the support of socially vulnerable groups and at the same time the protection of the environment are issues that concern them in their everyday life. They therefore choose to offer their surplus duce through Boroume volunteers to charitable organizations, instead of throwing it away.

We owe a big "thank you" to our hundreds of volunteers, who, every week, in all weather conditions, choose to be with us at the farmers’ markets to support Boroume's work and offer their precious free time and their positive energy. In 2022, all the partners of "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" (market vendors, Boroume volunteers, recipient charities etc.) managed and carried out 1.211 visits to public markets in Athens and Thessaloniki.

A most decisive contribution to the achievement of these excellent results is the cooperation with our staunch friends and supporters from Australia, The Hellenic Initiative Australia, which supports us on the one hand financially, and on the other with the contribution of its volunteers from the first steps of the program.

With everyone's contribution, we continue to strive for even better performance, always for the benefit of our fellow human beings and the environment.
