100 loaves of bread were "saved" and offered from a bakery in Gyzi

Tue 13 June 2017

Food waste can occur at many points of the food chain, such as, for example, from mishaps during food processing, from which there is often leftover food that is of excellent quality but unfortunately will end up in the trash. Such an example of mishap occurred during the bread production in the bakery of Mr. George Alafi, at Gyzi, and they communicated directly with us to offer 100 loaves of bread, so they wouldn't go to waste.

We looked for the nearest social welfare organisation that could take the loaves and thus, within very little time, a representative of the Welfare Housing for Elders of the Holy Church of Agios Stylianos at Gyzi came to pick them up. The bread was offered to people who the institution supports as well as the elderly people that the hostel hosts.

We are delighted when new donors contact us to join the "Food Saving & Offering" network of Boroume, actively supporting our efforts for no portion of food to go to waste.
