The Motivational Power of Boroume # 10

Fri 16 April 2021
The driving force of Boroume is its volunteers. People who know of our work and embrace it, not only from Greece but also from abroad. People trained in volunteering and with a huge sense of offering from an early age.

Brakay is from the United States. She came to Greece 2 years ago to teach English as a volunteer. Then she realized that she wants to stay in Greece and integrate into our society. She enjoys cooking, exploring new places and meeting new people. She decided to become a volunteer in Boroume when she became acquainted with the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" and was excited. She considers that the program is a wonderful initiative of Boroume as it gives the opportunity to the people who need access to healthy food, to the sellers of the farmers’ markets to offer their surplus products, while at the same time leftover fruits and vegetables do not end up in the landfill. In other words, it is a victory for everyone!

She is very pleased to share her volunteer experiences. She understands of course that many people do not have free time to participate. That's why she talks more about what each of us can do in our daily lives to take care of each other, ourselves and nature. Whenever she discusses her participation in the "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program, she receives enthusiasm for her participation and the purpose for which she participates. She believes that unfortunately we all throw away food every day and that we unconsciously waste leftover food or raw materials. She describes the team of Boroume with the words "responsibility", "community" and "ingenuity".

From her participation in the program "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market", she singles out the cases where a seller at the Farmers’ Market does "something more", such as to appear suddenly out of nowhere with a box or bag of offered fruits or vegetables, that is, when he comes alone to offer instead of calling our team to pick up. She also singles out the customer who has met us in our actions in the Ellinoroson farmers’ market and who very often buys eggs for our team, offers them and then returns to his company. The good little things people do to help are what make the best impression on her.
