Rescue & Food Offering Partnerships: SOS Refugees Athens

Thu 17 March 2022

Dimitris Kourouklis works as a volunteer at SOS Refugees Athens. Effective, dynamic and with an inexhaustible desire to help, he daily supports refugees and others with basic aim to improve their living conditions.

Although our collaboration began only a few months ago, in this short space of time we have managed to rescue and offer to the organization’s beneficiaries more than 11,000 portions of food with the support of businesses as well as producers/vendors that participate in our “Boroume at the Farmer’s Market” program.

Below you can read more about our collaboration with SOS Refugees Athens.

Tell us a little about yourself

The organization at which I volunteer is called SOS Refugees Athens and its goal is to improve the living conditions of refugees in Greece by providing them with food, clothing, pharmaceutical items, etc. Our activities are not limited only to refugees, but to anyone who needs help. As a volunteer, and with the guidance of our organization’s President, Patricia Colón, I try to help by driving the van, organizing our warehouse, distributing goods and anything else I am asked to do.

What led you to collaborate with Boroume?

Our contact with Boroume came about through a mutual friend, Lia, who is responsible for the organization Emantes- International Lgbtqia + Solidarity, which we actually support. Then Anna Kambouropoulou from Boroume visited us and she had the opportunity to experience the way we work and offer first-hand.  After our discussion and seeing that we share common goals, we decided to collaborate. Just like for Boroume, for us too it is important that not even one portion of food should go to waste. It is important for each of us to contribute to the eradication of hunger.

Say a few words about your collaboration with Boroume

Our collaboration with the entire Boroume team is effective and humane. We’ve been collaborating for about four or five months and up to now our thousands of beneficiaries have received more than 11,000 portions of food.
