In March, Boroume had the pleasure of visiting the 2nd Experimental High School of Athens, through the cultural activities of the school. Boroume talked with students of the 1st Gymnasium about food waste, volunteering and social contribution.
• What do they think when they see food beside a trash bin? • How do they imagine a person feels who is searching for food in the trash? • How can we offer our left over food to people who need it? These are some of the questions which the students tried to answer and a discussion followed. After the end of the presentation, the students expressed their thoughts about the program, the food that we throw into the trash but also their feelings: • "I felt very nice because I learnt new things but also a little bad because I realized that I throw away a lot of food" • "Heartache and sorrow because while some people do not have to eat we throw away food" • "I felt particular sadness for the lost portions of food but also love for Boroume" • "I felt very nice and got me thinking about whether I thought food was so important" • "I understood my responsibilities and from now on I will try to eat all my food or give any left over to those who need it" • "I became aware of some issues and will give them serious thought" • "For a while during all that we said I realized how all the unemployed and poor people felt".
We feel joy and emotion when we manage to contribute, even just a little, to the reflection, inspiration, information and changing habits of children regarding the issue of food waste.
Given that 1/3 of agricultural production remains uncollected in the field, the SOULFOOD electronic platform is a modern tool for dealing with the serious challenge of food waste in the agricultural sector
The “Journey of Food” program aims to raise young people’s awareness regarding the value of healthy nutrition and, at the same time, to familiarize them with the principles of sustainability and the reduction of food waste.
