Objective

The creation and coordination of the national voluntary agreement of all stakeholders in Greece regarding the reduction of food waste

Why?


The confrontation of such a complex and multifaceted challenge as food waste, requires the creation of collaborations amongst the many different stakeholders involved as well as the development of synergies between the levels of the food chain.

International experience has shown that national voluntary agreements are some of the most effective tools for the reduction of food waste at national level as well as the creation of collaborations amongst the various stakeholders in different levels of the food chain.

How?

  • By the creation of the Alliance for the Reduction of Food Waste, i.e. Greece's national voluntary agreement by Boroume
  • By the generous donation of AB Vassilopoulos that has covered the operational costs of the Alliance, from its beginning in 2020 until today
  • By the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy given from the beginning of the operation of the Alliance
  • By the coordinated action of the many Members of the Alliance in issues such as:

    - advocating for the formation and implementation of public policies (e.g. consultations for the 4819/2021 law)
    - informing and awareness raising about the extent and implications of food waste in Greece
    - exchange of informations and knowledge, highlighting good practices
    - promotion of research and innovation
