Completion of the European project SOULFOOD

After 2 years of intensive effort by the 4 European partners participating in the SOULFOOD project, the creation of the electronic platform aimed at utilizing surplus agricultural production has now been completed.

The SOULFOOD electronic platform connects producers who have surpluses of agricultural productσ with charitable organizations and local government bodies for redistribution. Producers can report the surplus of their agricultural products on the electronic platform, making it easier for charities to coordinate their receipt and distribution to people in need. This process prevents food waste while at the same time ensuring that food reaches people with food insecurity. 

For 2 years, SOULFOOD project partners from Spain, Lithuania, Romania and Greece shared knowledge, experience and know-how and worked in a coordinated manner to understand the needs of agricultural producers and charitable organizations, to document existing good practices internationally and to develop a technological tool that offers the best possible solution to the issues identified.

Given that 1/3 of agricultural production remains unsold in the field, the electronic platform of the SOULFOOD project is a modern tool to address the significant challenge of food waste in the agricultural sector.
