Greek-American volunteers in the farmers' markets of Athens & Thessaloniki

Mon 01 August 2022

During the first months of the summer, we had the pleasure to welcome 38 Greek America Corps volunteers who joined us to support our "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program in Athens and Thessaloniki.

People with incredible positive energy, warmth and, above all, the desire to use every minute of their volunteering activity to support people in need in our country.

The volunteers of the Greek America Corps of the Greek America Foundation participated in 33 actions of the " Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program in Athens and Thessaloniki, saving and offering more than 7,500 kilograms of surplus fruits and vegetables to non-profit organizations to support people in need.

It is impressive that from the first to the last day of their participation in the "Boroume at the Farmers’ Market" program, they always had with them, in addition to the orange vests of Boroume, a huge smile as a sign of joy and willingness to help our project.

We would like to express 38 big "thanks", one to each individual volunteer, who not only "embraced" our work, but who amply proved that volunteering has no borders.

According to Anthony Presti, Greek America Corps volunteer: "Working with Boroume as part of the Greek America Corps volunteer program helped me appreciate another side of Greece that I didn't have the chance to notice until now.The work that Boroume does is something that we often overlook but is very important for Greece's self-sufficiency. The people of Boroume are truly 'food warriors' and their “every meal matters” mentality is one that I hope many people follow in their daily lives!”

The Greek America Corps is a volunteer program of the Greek-American initiative Greek America Foundation that aims to involve its members in volunteer actions and programs of non-profit organizations in Greece.
